The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tolon Constituency and Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Hon. Habib Iddrisu, has strongly criticized the suspension of four MPs, describing the Speaker’s decision as unconstitutional and inconsistent with the standing orders of Parliament.

His comments follow the suspension of Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Minority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli, and Jerry Ahmed Shaib. The four MPs were handed a two-week suspension from parliamentary sittings due to their involvement in the chaos that erupted during the vetting proceedings. The suspension officially takes effect from Friday, January 31, 2025.

Speaking on Tolon Radio’s evening political program Yeltoga Kpanjogu, hosted by Abdul Shakur Omae, Hon. Habib Iddrisu stated that the Minority leadership would take steps to formally communicate to the Speaker that his decision was not grounded in law.

“The Speaker’s ruling is unconstitutional and does not align with the standing orders of Parliament. We, as the Minority leadership, will ensure that the Speaker is made aware that his decision has no legal backing,” he emphasized.

The Minority Caucus has expressed strong disapproval of the Speaker’s actions, arguing that due process was not followed. Hon. Habib Iddrisu further reiterated the Minority’s commitment to ensuring fairness and upholding parliamentary rules, stating that they would explore all available legal and procedural avenues to challenge the Speaker’s ruling.

The suspension of the four MPs has heightened political tensions in Parliament, with opposition members accusing the Speaker of bias. The coming days are expected to witness further developments as the Minority leadership strategizes its next course of action.
