The Ho Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Osman Abdul-Hakeem, has sentenced three individuals to a total of 19 years in prison for robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The convicted persons, Mercy Sokpe, 22, Atsu Kamasa, 25, and Godfred Dzidonu, 19, were found guilty of robbing Elijah Torgbedzi, 21, of his iPhone 6s, valued at GH₵700, on May 4, 2025, near the Ho Central Market.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when Sokpe approached the victim and requested to use his phone to take a selfie. When the complainant obliged, she signalled her accomplices, Kamasa and Dzidonu, who attacked Torgbedzi with a pair of scissors. The trio then fled the scene with the phone.

According to the police report, the victim quickly raised an alarm, leading to the arrest of Godfred Dzidonu, who was caught with the stolen iPhone and handed over to the police. Follow-up investigations led to the capture of Sokpe and Kamasa from their hideouts in Ho.

On May 9, 2025, all three were arraigned before the Ho Circuit Court and pleaded guilty to the charges. Each received a three-year sentence for conspiracy to commit robbery. Additionally, Kamasa and Dzidonu were sentenced to five years each for robbery, bringing the total jail time to 19 years collectively.

In a statement signed by DSP Felix Danku
Public Affairs Unit, Volta Region Police, the Police advised the general public to remain alert and vigilant and to be cautious of strangers who approach under suspicious pretences.
