The ongoing conflict in Sudan has triggered a massive displacement crisis, forcing millions of people to flee their homes and seek refuge in neighboring countries. According to the United Nations, over 4.3 million refugees have fled Sudan to countries such as Egypt, Chad, South Sudan, Libya, Uganda, and Ethiopia.
In Egypt 1.5 million Sudanese refugees
Chad had 773,662 refugees, with most being women and children
South Sudan had 1.25 million refugees, including 744,412 returning nationals
Libya also had 256,000 refugees
Uganda 72,125 refugees
Ethiopia 43,159 refugees and Central African republic also has 39,000 refugees.
The humanitarian situation in these countries is dire, with many refugees facing inadequate shelter, food shortages, and limited access to basic services. The World Food Programme has warned that food supplies to some refugees could dry up within two months due to funding shortages.
The crisis has also led to a significant increase in malnutrition rates among children, with one-fifth of young children in Chad experiencing acute malnutrition. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is working to provide critical services, including healthcare and nutrition support, to refugees in Chad, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.
The IRC has also reported horrific ordeals faced by forcibly displaced women and girls, including human rights violations and violence. The situation requires urgent international support to address the humanitarian needs of those affected.
