The president of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has nominated seven Justices of the Court of Appeal for elevation to the Supreme Court, by Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

In a formal communication addressed to the Acting Chief Justice and the Judicial Council, the President’s Secretary, Dr. Callistus Mahama, indicated that the nominees are all currently serving on the Court of Appeal bench.

The nominees are:

1. Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei

2. Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh

3. Justice Senyo Dzamefe

4. Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo

5. Justice Philip Bright Mensah

6. Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo

7. Justice Hafisata Amaleboba

According to the letter, their curricula vitae have been submitted alongside the nomination for the Council’s consideration.

The nominations now await approval by the Judicial Council and subsequent parliamentary vetting, as part of the constitutional process to confirm appointments to the country’s highest court.
