The former Northern Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Alhassan Sibdoo, has pushed back against recent claims by presidential hopeful Bryan Acheampog that his financial contributions to the party make him stand out ahead of the primaries.

Mr. Acheampog had suggested that his significant financial support for the NPP places him in a unique position to lead the party. But in a sharp response, Alhaji Sibdoo cautioned against equating political leadership with wealth, stressing that sacrifice and commitment remain the true pillars of party strength.

“Politics is not about money alone. For a political party to survive and succeed, there must be sacrifice, dedication, and commitment from all party levels,” he said.

He highlighted the invaluable efforts of grassroots members, including polling station executives, communicators, and activists who, he noted, keep the NPP active and connected to the people without expecting financial reward or recognition.

Speaking on Tolon radio’s Bugum Beni program hosted by Hamza Lansah, Alhaji Sibdoo urged politicians to stop using money as the sole measure of their contributions to party work, warning that such attitudes risk demoralising grassroots supporters.

While acknowledging that financial resources play an important role in sustaining political activity, he insisted that influence and loyalty cannot be bought. “The NPP thrives not because one individual spends money, but because ordinary members make daily sacrifices for the party’s survival,” he affirmed.
