Police in the Volta Region have intercepted a significant sum of money being transported under suspicious circumstances. The operation, carried out on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, around 4:45 p.m., followed a tip-off and led to the discovery of a large amount of Ghanaian currency concealed in a commercial vehicle.
According to the Volta Regional Police Command, officers stationed at the Juapong Snap Check point intercepted a Ford Transit bus en route to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be carrying sixty-eight (68) fertiliser bags filled with one cedi notes and coins. The total amount of money seized is estimated at GH¢1,021,700.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Edward Ansah, told police investigators that he had been contracted by an unnamed individual in Kumasi to transport the money from Ho in the Volta Region.
Mr. Ansah is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations to determine the source and purpose of the funds.
The police have assured the public that updates will be provided as investigations progress.
