The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized a workshop for political parties youth activists in the Tolon Constituency.

The political activists drawn from the various political parties including NPP NDC, CPP, PNC, GUM, were taking through the effects of political violence, peaceful coexistence and political tolerance. The workshop was sponsored by the European Union.

The District Director of NCCE, Madam Hawawu Abdul Rahaman in her welcome address urged the political activists to avoid vulgar languages and insults in their engagements, adding that, as the December 7 general election approaches political activism becomes very tense and if not manage well will lead to chaos.

According to her, party activists as part of their campaign messages sometimes heightened tension and inflame passions, therefore the need to bring political actors together to ensure peaceful election.

She noted that, though this is not the first time the NCCE is organizing such a forum for political activists however ensuring peace during before and after the December 7 general election is very essential.

She urged the political parties youth to be tolerant and accept each other opinions and views, noting that, elections are process and not an event.

“the youth are usual the perpetrators and of most often victims of violence once they are the forefront of political activism they always move into actions some of them are vulnerable they don’t even know what they are doing but once they know the repercussion of violence they will change”. She said

Sheikh Asdam Baba Muhaideen, an Imam of the. Tolon Central Mosques urged the youth to focus their energies on building a better future for themselves.

He admonished the political activists not to allow politicians to use them as agents of violence for their own parochial interest.

A pastor from the Tolon Baptist Church Rev. Issah Alhassan said the youth are the future of the nation and should not jeopardize their future in the name of political election.

He urged the members of the political parties to become ambassadors of peace to endure peaceful election come December 7.

A senior citizen of Tolon, Mr Adamu Abubakari noted that, the repercussions of violence conflicts does not discriminate and therefore appeal to the youth to see each other as one people despite belonging to different political groupings.

He urged the political parties youth to preach peace in their engagements.
