The Member of Parliament for Savelugu, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, has resumed her free water provision service to alleviate the severe water shortage affecting the constituency.

The ongoing water crisis has left thousands of residents struggling to access potable water for their daily needs. Communities within the savulegu town have reported long queues at limited water sources, with some residents walking several kilometres in search of water. The shortage has also disrupted basic activities such as cooking, cleaning, and sanitation, increasing the risk of health-related issues.

In response to the crisis, Hajia Fatahiya has deployed two water tankers to deliver potable water to the most affected areas. “This is a temporary solution as we work on implementing sustainable measures to resolve the water challenges in the constituency,” Hajia Fatahiya said in a statement.

During her campaign, the MP initiated the drilling of boreholes in several communities to address long-standing water issues. However, the current shortage, exacerbated by seasonal challenges and increased demand, has highlighted the urgent need for more permanent solutions.

Residents have expressed gratitude for the MP’s swift intervention. “We’ve been struggling to get water for weeks. This initiative has brought us some relief and hope,” said Mariama Issah, a resident of Savelugu.

The MP has reaffirmed her commitment to finding long-term solutions to the water crisis. She assured her constituents that Plans are underway to explore additional boreholes and improve water infrastructure across the constituency.

According to the MP, she remains dedicated to addressing the pressing needs of her people, demonstrating proactive leadership during this challenging time.
