The Minority Leadership of Parliament, led by Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the Clerk of the Vetting Committee of displaying partisan bias in the discharge of her duties.

Speaking at a press conference, Afenyo-Markin expressed frustration over what he described as a pattern of actions that undermine the neutrality expected of a parliamentary clerk.

“The Clerk to the committee is partisan; she is not a neutral professional Clerk. She has caused us a lot of discomfort, and we’ve tolerated and accommodated her. At this point, it’s getting out of hand,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

He further alleged that the Clerk has deliberately withheld crucial information from the Minority, including details of nominees scheduled for vetting and committee reports.

“As a Minority Leader, I am supposed to know those to be vetted the next day ahead of time, yet she doesn’t share that information with us. Not a single committee report that we’ve debated has been brought to me beforehand.”

Afenyo-Markin also pointed out an inconsistency in the Clerk’s approach, arguing that she previously sought the Minority’s approval during the 8th Parliament but has now sidelined the 9th Parliament minority.

The accusations raise concerns about the impartiality of parliamentary processes, with questions emerging about the Clerk’s role in ensuring transparency and fairness.
