The Dagbamba Youth Association (DAYA) is calling on Akwaaba Magic to suspend the upcoming premiere of its new series, “Tendana,” scheduled to air on September 30, 2025.
In a petition addressed to the Production Manager of Akwaaba Magic and to the director of the movie, DAYA expressed concern that the movie’s storyline appears to misrepresent aspects of Dagbon history and Dagbamba culture.
According to the association, the film risks projecting derogatory depictions of the Dagbamba people and may reinforce already “doctored” accounts of the group’s historical interactions with the Asantes.
“We do not wish for the movie to set a tribal demeaning agenda against the Dagbamba people,” the association stated.
DAYA, through its National Communications Director, Mr Abubakari Is-haq Motariga, has therefore requested a preview or clarification before the film is broadcast.
The group has also copied the petition to DSTV management, the producers of Tendana, and the National Security Coordinator, urging swift action to prevent any cultural misrepresentation.
Akwaaba Magic and DSTV are yet to officially respond to the concerns raised.
