By: Hamza Lansah Lolly :

FirstBank Ghana has officially opened a new branch in Tamale, which the bank says will deepen financial inclusion and support economic growth in the Northern Region.

The ceremony brought together chiefs, opinion leaders, customers, and banking officials who described the development as timely for the city’s expanding economy.

Managing Director of FirstBank Ghana, Victor Yaw Asante, said the new branch represents the bank’s commitment to becoming a long-term development partner in Tamale.

“With this new branch, FirstBank Ghana is making a bold and lasting statement that we are here not only to do business, but to support this community’s growth and transformation,” Mr. Asante said.

He explained that while Tamale has significant economic potential, many residents remain outside the formal banking system. The new branch, he noted, is aimed at closing that gap by creating opportunities for individuals, small businesses, and underserved communities.

The bank outlined plans to serve key sectors of the regional economy such as agriculture, trade, education, and the informal sector. It said its products are designed to meet the needs of everyday workers, from tricycle operators and shea butter processors to teachers and students.

Mr. Asante also highlighted FirstBank’s commitment to financial literacy and the use of mobile and agent banking to make services more accessible, even in remote areas.

Since beginning operations in Ghana in 1996, FirstBank Ghana has expanded steadily as part of the larger FirstBank Group, which has more than 131 years of banking experience. The institution focuses on integrity, service, and innovation, with people at the centre of its work.

The bank expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of Tamale, the Bank of Ghana, and its customers for their support, assuring them of reliable and customer-centred services.

The event concluded with the official commissioning of the new branch.

“This branch is more than brick and mortar,” Mr. Asante said. “It is a beacon of possibility, a platform for empowerment, and a symbol of what we can achieve when we work together.”
