Football Legend Abedi Pele turns 60 years today

Former Black Stars captain and African football legend Abedi Ayew Pele turns 60 years today.

Abedi Ayew was born on 5 November 1964.

The Ghanaian former professional footballer played as an attacking midfielder and served as captain of the Ghana national team. He is regarded as one of the greatest African footballers of all time.

He played for several European clubs and found his fame in the French Ligue 1 with Lille and Marseille, the latter where he won the UEFA Champions League in 1993, among other titles. He was also the first to win CAF award in 1992.

Let’s take a look at his achievements as a footballer throughout his career:

1. African Club Player of the Year (1992)

2. French Ligue 1 champion (1993) with Marseille

3. UEFA Champions League winner (1993) with Marseille

4. French Cup winner (1989, 1990) with Marseille

1. African Cup of Nations winner (1982) with Ghana

2. African Cup of Nations runner-up (1992) with Ghana

3. FIFA World Cup participant (1982, 1990, 1994) with Ghana

*Individual Honors:*

1. African Footballer of the Year (1992)

2. Ghanaian Footballer of the Year (1983, 1990, 1992)

3. UEFA Best African Player (1992)
