The Accra Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for individuals involved in violent incidents that disrupted the parliamentary re-run in the Ablekuma North constituency on Friday, July 11.

In a press statement issued and signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the Police confirmed that some polling stations witnessed isolated acts of violence, including assaults and disruptions, during the election.

“Preliminary reports indicate that these incidents caused temporary disruptions to the otherwise peaceful conduct of the election in some polling stations. Police officers intervened promptly to restore calm and ensure voting continued without further interruptions,” the statement said.

The Command emphasised that anyone found to have participated in violence, intimidation, or disturbing the peace will be arrested and face the full rigours of the law.

Citizens are being urged to support ongoing investigations by reporting any useful information through the Police emergency lines 18555 or 191.

Despite the disturbances, the police maintained that their swift intervention helped stabilise the situation and allow voting to proceed.

The parliamentary re-run was held after the initial results from 19 polling stations were nullified, drawing heightened public and political attention to the electoral process in the constituency.
