In a significant boost to educational development within the Northern Region, the Vice President of the Republic, H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, officially commissioned the Hajia Mariam Centre of Education in Bamvim, Tamale. The state-of-the-art facility was funded by the Zongo Development Fund (ZoDF) as part of its mandate to promote inclusive development within Zongo communities across Ghana.

The commissioning ceremony, was attended by government officials, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and enthusiastic residents of Bamvim and its environs.

In his address, Vice President Bawumia revealed that the project was in fulfillment of a promise he made to the education center when he visited them a few years ago. During that visit, the center requested enhanced facilities to meet the growing demands of Islamic and secular education in the community. Dr. Bawumia also announced that the school had requested a bus for transportation, a need that was fully addressed as part of the project’s completion.

“This center is not just a building; it represents our vision of providing equal opportunities for all Ghanaian children, regardless of their background. Education is the cornerstone of national development, and this facility is a testament to our dedication to nurturing the potential of every child,” Dr. Bawumia remarked.

He further emphasized that the government’s efforts to uplift Islamic education in the Northern Region and Ghana as a whole have been unwavering. Highlighting the impact of the Zongo Development Fund, the Vice President noted that over 100 such facilities have been constructed across the country, benefitting communities from various regions.

The Hajia Mariam Centre of Education comprises modern classrooms, a well-equipped library, a computer lab, and recreational facilities, ensuring a conducive learning environment for students. The project was initiated to bridge the educational gap in the region and inspire a culture of academic excellence among the youth.

The commissioning also doubled as an opportunity for Vice President Bawumia to interact with the Bamvim community, where he reiterated his vision for Ghana’s development. He urged the residents to prioritize education, emphasizing its transformative impact on both individuals and society.

As the 2024 general elections draw near, the event subtly highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s presidential campaign, with supporters holding placards and banners that read “Bawumia for President 2024.” The community leaders expressed their gratitude for the Vice President’s continuous efforts to uplift the Northern Region, affirming their support for his political aspirations.

The Hajia Mariam Centre of Education stands as a legacy of the government’s commitment to creating opportunities for all Ghanaians, particularly those in underserved communities. It is expected to serve as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for educational excellence in Bamvim and beyond.
