The Paramount Chief of Tolon Traditional area Nyeb Tolon Naa Major (Rtd) Sulemana Abubakari has offered a fortified kola nut to the Presidential Candidate of the NPP Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia to signify his victory in the upcoming 2024 December 7 election.

The Vice President and 2024 Presidential Candidate of the NPP Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia was at the Tolon Naa’s palace, as part of his tour to the Northern Region, Thursday 21st November 2024.

It is the custom and tradition of Dagbon for Chiefs to give kola nuts to guests when they visit their palaces. Chiefs in Dagbon call their guests to come for kola nuts which symbolized friendship, togetherness, success, peace, unity, trust and love. Kola nut is use in various ways and plays significant roles in most traditional settings including Dagbon. Kola nut is also a spiritual seed used for rituals in the spiritual realm.

But what happened at the Tolon Naa’s palace on Thursday 21 November 2024 was unprecedented and alien to the customs of Dagbon where the revered Chief of Tolon got up from his seat(skin) and went straight and handed over the kola nuts to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia instead of the other way round. An action which enthusiastic supporters of NPP cheered in excitement amidst thunderous applauds.

Before the Chief of Tolon handed over the kola nuts to Dr Bawumia he told the Chiefs present and the crowd that gathered that he is going to give the kola nuts to the grandson of Naa Gbewaa (Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia) to signify his victory in the December 7 general election.

According to him, as the Chief Warrior of Dagbon it is his duty to prepare Dr Bawumia grandson of Naa Gbewaa for the battle ahead.

The Chief of Tolon is the Commandant and Chief Spiritual Warrior of Dagbon Kingdom who leads Dagbon to victory in battles, therefore giving a Kola nut to Dr. Bawumia in the manner in which he did means nothing but victory kola nut for the NPP presidential candidate.

The Member of Parliament for Karaga and Finance Minister Hon Mohammed Amin Adam at the venue urged the revered Chief of Tolon Major (Rtd) to rally Chiefs, sons and daughters of Naa Gbewaa in Northern Ghana and across the country on behalf of Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.

Dr. Amin reiterated that, it is time for the descendant of Naa Gbewaa to become President of Ghana.
