The Tolon District Assembly through its Social Welfare and Community Development have provided support to 66 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) to improve their lot.
The items distributed includes deep freezers, weaving machine, mobility devices and cash at a total cost of GHS 173,100.
The presentation was held Monday, 25th November, 2025 at Assemblly’s Hall.
The support came through the 3% share of the District Assembly Common Fund aimed at providing grants for livelihood empowerment, education, and medical needs to PWDs. This support is a government initiative to reduce poverty, promote self-reliance, and ensure PWDs are integrated into socio-economic development.
Speaking at the ceremony to present the items, the Tolon DCE, Hon Seidu Braimah urged the beneficiaries to use the funds and items for the intended purpose.
He said, the support forms part of government efforts to promote economic empowerment and social inclusion.
Hon Braimah stressed that, the government is committed in providing equal opportunities to all Ghanaians, announcing that, the allocation of 3% DACF to PWDs has been increased to 5% effective 2026.
“President Mahama cares about you, the reason he has increased the PWDs allocation from 3% to 5%”. He said
The Tolon District Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mr Deku Mawunyo Michael hinted that, the Fund Managers received 86 PWDs applications across the district and after due diligence and vetting, selected 66 PWDs to benefit from the fund.
” Some of the applications did not meet the criteria and so we ask them to rewrite it and submit to access the fund in the next disbursement schedule. Whoever applied will be assisted’. He said
The District Director of Social Welfare and Community Development commended the Fund Managers for working hard in ensuring that persons with disabilities across the Tolon district get assisted.
He reveals that, this is the second disbursement this year, ” It been successful and the PWDs are very happy with this support”.
Mr. Deku noted that, the support will enable PWDs more self-reliant and economically vibrant.
He said, the Fund Management will monitor and access the progress of beneficiaries after taking the support. ” We are going to vigorously monitor the beneficiaries to ensure that things are done right”. He added
