The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has gunned down three suspected armed robbers, identified as Seidu Issah, Musah Yakubu, and Yahaya Munkaila (also known as Tijani), who were planning a highway robbery along the Anwiankwanta-Obuasi Highway in the Ashanti Region. The incident occurred on December 24, 2025, when police received a tip about the gang’s plans and deployed officers to the scene.

The suspects opened fire on the police, triggering a shootout that left three of them dead and two others escaping into the bush. The police retrieved two pump-action guns, one unbranded pistol, 25 live cartridges, and six spent cartridges from the scene. A follow-up operation on December 26, 2025, led to the recovery of more weapons, including an AK-47 assault rifle, an MG3 rifle, a pump-action gun, and a single-barrel gun.

The suspects are believed to be behind several robberies, including the Jacobu airport robbery on November 3, 2025, which led to the death of a security guard, and multiple highway robberies along the Manso stretch. The police have intensified patrols in the area to prevent reprisals and restore calm.
