The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tamale, Hon Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro has emphasized the need for transformative leadership in Africa to meet the evolving demands of societies for more inclusive and accountable governance.

Speaking to distinguished guests at the 4th edition of the African Public Service Optimum Awards (APSO) 2025, held at the La Palm Royal Beach, Accra. Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the Tamale Mayor noted that, transformative leadership involves vision with integrity, courage with purpose, compassion, and innovation with purpose.

The APSO Awards recognize exemplary public servants and institutions in Africa, selected by a board based on performance.

Hon Abu Takoro said public servants are crucial in bridging the gap between promise and progress in Africa.

“By empowering public servants with skills, ethics, and technology, institutions can be built to serve with transparency, efficiency, and empathy”. He added

The Tamale Mayor stressed that leadership should be by example, creating a public service that listens, learns, and leads to drive Africa’s transformation, which is not only possible but unstoppable.

Abu Takoro’s statements underscores the importance of effective leadership in shaping Africa’s future and meeting the demands of its evolving societies in the context of Tamale and broader Africa.
