‘Tamale is the fastest growing city in West Africa” – Hon Abu Takoro couts US Mayors to bring businesses to Tamale

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Hon Alhaji Abubakari Adam Takoro has courted colleagues Mayors from the United States of America (USA) to bring businesses to invest in the Tamale metropolis.

According to the Tamale Mayor, Tamale remains the fastest growing city in Ghana and the entire subregion, reiterating that, Tamale is full of potentials, peaceful and noted for its hospitality.

The Mayor of Tamale affectionately called Abu Takoro was engaging the US Mayors at the opening ceremony of the African American Mayors USA Trade Mission to Ghana at the La Palm Royal Beach, Accra, Monday 27 October 2025.

The three day conference under the theme “Building Trade Relationship”. brought together key African American Mayors and Ghanaian stakeholders for strategic partnerships and business opportunities between Ghana and United States of America (USA).

Hon Abu Takoro stressed that, the biggest investment opportunities is in the Agric sector, especially in the value chain crops including rice, maze, soya, groundnut, sorghum, cotton and Shea.

He emphasized that, Tamale is also endowed with tourism potentials and vast lands for real estate developments.

Hon Takoro again urged for more partnership through the sister City relationship to augment developmental projects in the cities. ” I believe this will not only bring the needed development to our people but will further strengthen the bilateral ties between Ghana and United States of America “

About the African American Mayors USA Trade Mission

The African American Mayors USA Trade Mission to Ghana is a delegation of African American mayors focused on strengthening business, tourism, and cultural ties between the US and Ghana. The mission aims to foster investment and trade, promote cultural exchange, and build people-to-people connections by meeting with Ghanaian government officials, business leaders, and cultural organizations. During recent visits, delegations have focused on areas like urban development, tourism, and education, and engaged in discussions about turning Ghana into a hub for international investment and trade. 
  • Goals: The mission aims to foster people-to-people connections and strengthen partnerships between Ghanaian authorities and African American municipal leaders.
  • Key Activities: Delegation members meet with government officials, business leaders, and cultural organizations. Specific activities have included visiting historical sites like the Cape Coast Slave Castle, meeting with the Mayor of Accra to discuss urban development and tourism, and calling on local leaders like the Asantehene.
  • Economic Focus: The mission works to establish and expand trade and investment relationships between US cities and Ghana. This includes promoting Ghana as a viable hub for investment across sectors like real estate, manufacturing, education, creative industries, and hospitality.
  • Cultural and Educational Exchange: The visits also emphasize cultural exchange and the importance of diaspora connection. They build on existing partnerships, such as the sister-city agreement between Memphis and Accra, and involve collaborations like the University of Memphis’s role in fostering academic and cultural exchange.
