The Eastern South Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest and subsequent granting of bail to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) First Vice Chairman, Alhaji Sofo Azorka, over his alleged involvement in an assault on Alhaji Masahudu Osman, the third vice of the opposition NPP,  during the recent Akwatia by-election.

According to a police statement, Azorka was arrested in Tamale on September 10, 2025, following investigations into an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on September 2, 2025.

The police noted that a caution statement had been taken from the suspect, who has since been released on bail. He is expected to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on September 16, 2025, at 10 a.m. for arraignment before the court.

The statement, signed by DSP David Fianko Okyere of the Public Affairs Unit, assured the public of thorough investigations into the matter and urged all to remain calm while due process takes its  course.
