Several feared dead in a violence clash with military in Obuasi

A tragic confrontation between military personnel and illegal small-scale miners (locally referred to as “galamseyers”) at the AngloGold Mines in Obuasi, Ashanti Region, has left several dead and others injured.

The incident occurred early this morning, resulting in significant casualties and property damage, including burned vehicles and other valuables. The deceased and injured individuals have been transported to the Obuasi Government Hospital for medical attention and identification.

The exact cause of the violent encounter remains unclear. However, local authorities report that calm has been restored to the area as investigations are underway to determine the circumstances leading to the deadly clashes
