The Member of Parliament (MP) for Walewale in the North East Region Hon Dr. Tiah Abdul Kabiru Mahama has made a passionate appeal to the Minister of Interior and the National Security to lift the imposition of curfew in Walewale and its environs.
According to him, the curfew is taking a toll on the people’s livelihoods and children education.
Following a recent attack on passenger bus on the Bolga highway that recorded three deaths, the Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument on Saturday, February 15 2025 imposed curfew on Walewale and its environs in the North East Region from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.
Again there is a total ban on all persons in Walewale and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
Speaking on Joy News AM Show, Thursday, February 20, 2025, the Walewale legislator said, it is very regrettable in the events the led to the curfew but quick to add that, the people of Walewale are law abiding citizens and will never take the law into their own hands.
He urged the people of Walewale to cooperate with the security agencies to maintain law and order.
“Let us help the security agencies to maintain a lasting peace, don’t do things that will enable the security agencies to take the law into their own hands to further brutalized you”. He urge
Dr. Kabiru Mahama hinted that, two persons have since loss their lives in the hands of the Military personnel in Walewale.
The Walewale MP was very optimistic that things will come to normalcy and the people of Walewale and its environs will enjoy a lasting peace.
Earlier, the Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga called the government to lift the curfew imposed on Walewale and its surrounding areas.
