HOW NPP CAN WIN 2028 AND HOW

By: Musah Superior

We lost badly in 2024. It was an obliteration. Ghanaians delivered the most damning verdict on us. We have not recovered fully from this devastation since December 2024.

Seven months on, we are still talking about the defeat. Every single day, we debate contentiously why we lost. This is evident on our platforms. We criticise, blame, and call out persons we believe contributed to our defeat. The Oquaye report is under lock and key. Party strategists say publishing the report will not be in the interest of the party. I disagree though; I think the report should be made public. Not publishing it gives room for exaggerated narratives.

In the absence of the official reasons for our massive defeat, we will continue to speculate reasons for this calamitous experience, infinitely.

Whilst it appears unlikely to completely discontinue talking about the painful defeat and shouting from the rooftops, it is proper we do an introspection and self analysis as a party. Our future prospects will depend on how soon and correctly we fix or address the challenges of the party. This calls for direct and sincere conversations about the way forward.

The recent amendments of some provisions of our constitution and introduction of new clauses are a major step in the right direction. It indicates progress towards our desired goal and gives hope for the future.

A strong party is built based on its desire and preparedness to mobilize its members and supporters into a powerful and motivated machinery. We can achieve this if we do a quick regroup.

This is why l support the election of our 2028 flagbearer in January 2026. If we elect our flagbearer as soon as it’s planned, it will provide for three things:

1. Stability

2. Clarity

3. Purpose.

As soon as we get the Presidential primaries off the table, it will produce a stable, focused, and purposeful architecture to serve as a solid foundation to enhance the rebuilding process. Anything built on a weak foundation does not last. We ought to be committed to the process and ensure that we put the party first in everything we do.

A newly elected flagbearer in the shortest possible time will become one of the party’s key pillars to hold us together; serving as a rallying point for our forward march to recapture power in 2028.

Clearly, we must build a strong and versatile party for the candidate to ride on. It has always been my contention that presidential candidates can not win elections on their own strength. Elections are won by strong political parties.

This makes the elections of CAPABLE party officers across the organisational structure critical. We must elect competent, hardworking, and result oriented people to serve as officers of the party across the board. Our Polling Station Executives, in particular, must be persons who are desirous to do the job. They remain the most essential and fundamental elements that hold the entire party structure. Think of them as the main building blocks or foundation upon which our party is built.

Our Electoral Area Executives must be on top of the game and provide efficient leadership to ensure the base of the party functions potently.

We must elect persons with the right skills set as Constituency Officers. At the constituency level, our executives must ensure that the party is run ably, efficiently, aptly, and capably. This will ensure our mobilsation effort, organisational goals, attractiveness, and political dispensation outcompete our opponents, particularly the NDC.

What is required of our Regional Officers is the ability to liaise effectively between the local constituency officers and the leadership of the party at Asylum Down. Monitoring, evaluation, and excellent reporting to the centre is critical.

Persons aspiring to become National Officers must have strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. They must be adept at recruiting and managing volunteers, planning and executing events, and developing and implementing campaign strategies. Additionally, they need strong administrative and technical skills to manage the party’s operations effectively. We require strong, unshaken, and forthright personnel to lead the party.

Electing the right people to steer the affairs of the party at all levels will confirm that we are resolved to ensure that our party is delivered out of this unexpected political quagmire that we currently find ourselves.

The 2028 election is there for the taking if we put house in order, work together, go into the election as one unit block, work harder, be guided by our common purpose and be led by selfless and smart leadership who are focused on achieving tangible and measurable outcomes or goals.

This is how we can fix the party and win in 2028.

One of the surest ways to sustain our future victory is for the next NPP government to work closely with the leadership of the party in policy formulation and implementation. Government policies aim to ameliorate the suffering of the people via strong socio-economic deliverables.

Governing parties remain the most reliable supervisory group to scrutinize and monitor these policies to ascertain their effectiveness and popularity. It is imperative therefore that, the next NPP government works intimately with the party. This collaborative approach will help quickly identify some policy defects and immediately tackle them.

The culture of exclusion should not be tolerated. Absolute power should not be handed to a few people to peddle influence and mistreat others. The next President should be “owned” by all of us, and they must ensure that strategic steps be taken to assist people who have worked for our success.

All who have supported the party financially, intellectually, and physically should be provided the opportunity to pursue their goals or interests. The era of “monkey dey work baboon the chop” should be the thing of the past. If you stay away during the struggle, you can not come seeking to serve in the name of being an expert. We know the experts who are also NPP activists, are grassroots mobilizers, and are working flat out to ensure we win 2028. I have met these fine brains in NPP meetings.

If you have expertise in an area, it should not qualify you straight away to serve in our next government unless you have demonstrated that you were part of the struggle.

If you are apolitical now, you have no business wanting to be an appointee of the next NPP government.

The experts who are deeply involved in the partiy’s activities and working to rebuild it publicly or behind the scenes should be the ones to call the shots when we return to government; not these opportunists lurking around just to surface with some big degrees lobbying for jobs after we have won power.

The party’s National Executive Committee should resist any move by the President, his relatives or friends to smuggle persons who are not known to the party in any form or have not participated in the struggle and campaign.

Carrying people who have fulfilled their obligations in the party, especially in its most diificult periods along, is how political parties grow stronger, relevant and leverages its unique strengths and capabilities to outperform other political parties in elections.

This is how we can sustain our future victory.
