NPP should regret disbanding vigilante groups- Mohammed Issah

The Savannah Regional Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mohammed Issah, has expressed concerns over the party’s decision to disband its vigilante groups prior to the last general election.

According to him, the move placed the NPP at a disadvantage, as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) allegedly outmaneuvered them by forming a group referred to as the “Green Army.”

Speaking on the Friday edition of “Yeltoga Kpanjogu,” a socio-political talk show on Tolon Radio hosted by Abdul Shakur Omae, Mohammed Issah argued that the decision to disband the vigilante groups had significant repercussions on the party’s electoral performance. He lamented that the NDC took advantage of the situation, leaving the NPP vulnerable.

He further alleged that the lack of a structured internal security arrangement within the NPP allowed instances where election officers were reportedly forced to declare some parliamentary results under duress. He insisted that if the party had maintained its own security structures, such occurrences could have been avoided.

Mohammed Issah, therefore, appealed to the national leadership of the NPP to take party security seriously, emphasizing its importance for future elections. He urged the leadership to learn from their mistakes and ensure the party is better prepared to protect its interests in subsequent polls.

The remarks have sparked discussions among party supporters, with many calling for measures to strengthen the party’s internal organization ahead of the next election.
