The Northern NPP Concerned Youth Group has strongly condemned comments attributed to the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, describing them as discriminatory and disrespectful toward former Vice President and NPP presidential candidate hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to the group, the MP’s alleged remarks suggesting that Dr Bawumia is “an outsider” and “a slave brought in to serve” are not only unfortunate but also contrary to the unity and inclusiveness the New Patriotic Party stands for.

In a statement issued in Tamale on Saturday, November 1, 2025, and signed by its President, Abdulai Abdul Jalil Opele, the youth group stated that the MP’s comments amount to an insult to the people of the North and undermine Dr Bawumia’s contributions to the NPP and national development.

The group highlighted Dr Bawumia’s record as an accomplished economist and technocrat, noting his pivotal role as a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, running mate from 2008 to 2016, and a key witness during the 2012 election petition.

They further reminded party members that the NPP’s constitution discourages divisive and discriminatory utterances, urging the MP to issue an unqualified apology to Dr Bawumia and the people of the North.

The youth group warned that failure to apologise would compel them to petition the national leadership of the party to take disciplinary action against the MP.

They concluded by reaffirming their unwavering support for Dr Bawumia and all the presidential candidates, calling for unity and respect among party members ahead of future political engagements.
