Former Member of Parliament for Tamale  Central, Hon. Inusah Fuseini, has expressed concern over the recent conduct of MPs during Friday’s vetting process, calling their actions “very unfortunate.”

Speaking on Joy Prime Morning Show, Mr Fuseini questioned the legality of suspending four MPs from the vetting committee, stating that the process raises doubts about parliamentary procedures.

“Can the chairman of the committee suspend another member of the same committee? We don’t see that. If you say the Speaker has the power to suspend a member, yes, for dishonourable conduct—it’s in the new Standing Orders. But whether the Speaker’s power extends to a committee for two weeks is doubtful. I don’t believe the rules provide for that,” he argued.

He further stated that any decision that is difficult to justify tends to be problematic, suggesting that the Speaker’s actions may have been influenced by the absence of the Privileges Committee. He urged future parliamentary leadership to prioritize setting up all committees within the first week of sitting.

Highlighting the consequences of misconduct in Parliament, Mr Fuseini emphasized that MPs can face expulsion for serious breaches of conduct.

“There are dire sanctions, I repeat, dire sanctions for MPs who misbehave in such an appalling manner. The Standing Orders of Parliament state that an MP can be expelled from the House, but it requires a two-thirds majority vote,” he explained.

He concluded by urging MPs to uphold discipline and decorum in Parliament, reminding them of the need to conduct themselves honourably.
