The Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe, Esq., has stepped up efforts to address pressing developmental issues in the region, holding two high-level engagements focused on sustainable water access and improving education infrastructure.

In a strategic meeting held at the regional coordinating council, the Minister welcomed a delegation of Chinese water engineers to the region. This visit follows a recent dialogue between Hon. Be-Awuribe and the Chinese Ambassador in Accra, where both parties expressed a shared interest in exploring long-term, sustainable water solutions for the Savannah Region.

Following consultations at the Regional Coordinating Council, the engineers, the Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive of West Gonja toured key sites at the White Volta in Yapei and the Black Volta in Buipe. The visit aimed to assess the viability of these water bodies as sources to serve the water needs of Central Gonja District and the West Gonja Municipality.

“We are committed to leveraging international partnerships to solve our developmental challenges,” Hon. Be-Awuribe said. “Water is a basic necessity, and this collaboration with our Chinese partners is a step toward lasting solutions.”

In a separate engagement later in the day, the Minister met with heads of all senior high schools across the Savannah Region. The meeting, held at the Regional Education Directorate, focused on strengthening collaboration between regional authorities and educational institutions.

The Regional Director of Education, speaking on behalf of the school heads, appealed to the President through the Regional Minister for urgent intervention in the form of improved infrastructure and adequate teaching and learning materials. He highlighted the growing challenges schools face, including overcrowded classrooms, insufficient dormitory space, and inadequate teaching resources.

“Despite these challenges, school leaders remain committed to delivering quality education,” the Director said. “With the right support, we can turn things around for our students and communities.”

Hon. Be-Awuribe, in his response, reaffirmed his dedication to championing education in the region. He promised to intensify advocacy at the national level and pledged to maintain open lines of communication with school leadership to ensure consistent progress.

“My office remains open to all school heads and stakeholders,” he said. “Together, we will create a learning environment that prepares our youth for a brighter future.”
