President John Dramani Mahama will on Monday unveil a new set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Ghana’s Ambassadors at the opening of the Conference of Heads of Mission in Accra.
The initiative, announced by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, marks the first time in the nation’s history that envoys will operate under a measurable performance framework.
According to Mr. Ablakwa, the KPIs are designed to align Ghana’s diplomatic missions with President Mahama’s “Reset Vision,” ensuring that the work of Ambassadors directly contributes to national development goals.
“This historic move will make our diplomatic service more accountable, strategic and impactful,” he noted. “Ambassadors will no longer be dispatched with broad mandates alone, but with clear, trackable targets that reflect the priorities of government and the people of Ghana.”
The Foreign Affairs Minister added that the framework will cover areas such as trade and investment promotion, diaspora engagement, regional security cooperation, and support for Ghanaian citizens abroad.
The Conference of Heads of Mission is expected to bring together Ghana’s Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consuls-General from around the world to discuss the implementation of the new framework and other strategies for strengthening the country’s external relations.
