On the floor of Parliament, Minority Leader Hon. Alexander Kwabena Afenyo Martin has cautioned that introducing excessive debates in the 9th Parliament could hinder government business. His remarks came during the official announcement of changes in the leadership of the majority caucus.

Hon. Afenyo Martin reassured the newly appointed majority leadership of his caucus’s willingness to collaborate for the betterment of the country. He praised the new leaders for their extensive experience and expertise in parliamentary business, expressing confidence in their ability to guide the legislative process effectively.

“I know that you enjoy the rules and you will not allow things to go unattempted, but let me quickly remind you, sir, that as a government leader, if you try to introduce more debates, government business will suffer,” he stated.

The Minority Leader’s remarks highlight the need for a delicate balance between spirited parliamentary debates and efficient governance. While debates are crucial for fostering democracy, Hon. Martin warned against allowing them to stall government policies and initiatives as in some cases in the 8th parliament.

He commended the 9th Parliament for its work thus far, emphasizing its role in advancing democratic principles in the country. The Minority Leader also congratulated the newly appointed majority leadership, pledging his support and cooperation.

In conclusion, Hon. Martin expressed optimism that both sides of the House would work together to address the pressing needs of the nation.
