“He is hiding under Munchiri sect to defy the authority of Ndan Yaa Naa” – Sheikh Dura blows Afa Aborufu cover

News Desk Report]

In a strong rebuke, renowned Tamale cleric Abdul-Razak Sheikh Dura has called out a fellow Islamic preacher in Tamale for defying the authority of the King of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abukari II.

The Overlord of Dagbon some few months ago gave a directive to all Islamic preachers in Dagbon to stop personal attacks and denigrating each other through their sermons.

Ndan Yaa Naa further urged all the Muslim sects to tolerate one another and preach with decorum in their sermons.

However, a video circulating on social media featured an Islamic preacher making a derogatory remarks on his sermons against other Islamic sects in which Sheikh Dura reiterates are direct disrespect to the Dagbon Throne.

Sheikh Dura also in a viral video noted that,  using unpalatable and inflammatory language in sermons is not only disgraceful but a direct insult to Ndan Yaa Naa, the Dagbon Overlord.

Though he did not mention the name of the Islamic preacher, he alleged that, the said preacher is hiding under “Munchiri” Islamic sect to disrespect the Yaa Naa’s directives.

Again, the Munchiri preacher is “hiding behind Islam” to challenge the Yaa-Naa’s authority.

The renowned and outspoken Islamic Cleric further contextualized the issue by stating that the level of respect shown by non-natives towards traditional leaders is often a reflection of how the natives themselves treat their chiefs.

“If you come home with your friend, and you squat to greet your father, your friend cannot stand and greet him,” Dura remarked, underscoring that respect for the throne is non-negotiable.

Expanding on his point, the Sheikh offered a theological perspective by referencing the story of Satan. He explained that Satan, though not an angel, was raised to a high status by God and grew arrogant, believing himself superior. It was only upon the creation of Adam that Satan’s true standing was revealed, leading him to rebel under a guise of piety. Sheikh Dura implied that the accused cleric is engaging in a similar deception—pretending to be a righteous Muslim while openly disrespecting a God-given authority.

Though Sheikh Dura did not mentioned the name of the alleged “Munchiri” preacher, however many people on social media have directed the accusations of Sheikh Dura to Sheikh Abdul Rauf aka Afa Aborufu in his recent sermon that sparked public uproar due to its unpalatable content.
