The Government of Ghana has secured a $30 million grant from China to fund the Aflao Market Project, a flagship initiative of President John Dramani Mahama aimed at transforming Aflao into a major commercial hub in the Volta Region.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said this during a meeting with key stakeholders working on the project. The session reviewed architectural designs, analysed the feasibility report, and clarified partner responsibilities ahead of construction.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the market will be one of the largest indoor markets in Ghana, featuring modern facilities including schools, administrative offices, a fire station, a clinic, warehouses, transport terminals, pharmacies, abattoirs, and recreational centres.

He expressed gratitude to Togbui Adzongaga Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area; the Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Arts and Creative Industries, Hon. Dzifa Gomashie; Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu; the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa; Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Nicholas Kwabla Worlachie; and technical and architectural teams for their commitment to the project.

Hon. Ablakwa disclosed that President Mahama is expected to cut the sod soon to officially commence construction.

The Aflao Market Project is expected to boost trade, create jobs, and transform Aflao into a modern commercial hub.
