The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has equipped its sixteen Regional Managers with enhanced strategies to accelerate connectivity in rural Ghana, following a crucial two-day workshop concluded this week.

The high-level training, which featured experts from the National Communications Authority and leading tech firms, focused heavily on revitalizing the Rural Telephony Project to provide basic telecom services and expand internet access to the country’s most underserved communities.

The strategic workshop, held from October 31 to November 1, 2025, at the Platinum Bay Hotel in the Greater Accra Region, served as a key operational briefing for GIFEC’s regional leadership. The objective was to align frontline managers with the government’s broader digital transformation agenda.

In a direct charge to the participants, the Acting Administrator of GIFEC, Mr. Tanko Rashid-Computer, and the Deputy Administrator, Hon. Abdul-Aziz Mohammed, underscored the critical nature of their roles. They urged the managers to immediately apply the insights and techniques gained from the training to drive tangible results in their respective regions.

“The knowledge you have acquired here is not for the shelf,” stated Hon. Abdul-Aziz Mohammed. “You are the engines that will drive GIFEC’s mandate from policy into reality, ensuring we leave no community behind in the digital age.”

The curriculum placed a significant emphasis on practical solutions for the Rural Telephony Project, addressing how to improve basic telecommunication access, increase connectivity, and enable affordable internet services to bridge the persistent digital divide.

The workshop was supported by a strong contingent of GIFEC’s leadership, including the Directors of Operations, HR and Administration, and Corporate Affairs, signaling the organization’s unified commitment to the initiative.

To provide comprehensive and industry-relevant training, GIFEC assembled a team of resource persons from key organizations, including Ascend Digital Solutions, the National Communications Authority, and Huawei Technologies.

With this targeted capacity-building initiative, GIFEC has positioned its regional managers to lead a renewed push for universal digital inclusion across all sixteen regions of Ghana.
