Ghana has joined the international community in condemning the military takeover in Guinea-Bissau, demanding an immediate restoration of democracy and declaration of election results.
The Ghanaian government has expressed its support for the people of Guinea-Bissau and called for the military to respect the democratic process.
The situation in Guinea-Bissau remains tense, with President Umaro Sissoco Embalรณ reportedly arrested and detained. The military has declared “total control” of the country, suspended the electoral process, and imposed a curfew.
Ghana’s demand for the restoration of democracy is in line with the positions of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union, which have also condemned the coup and urged the military to release detained officials and allow the electoral process to proceed.
