The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has disclosed that the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has received a total of GHS 2.71 billion for the first four months of 2025.

Speaking during a briefing to Parliament earlier today, Dr Ato Forson confirmed that the amount of GHS 2,710,227,947.00 covers allocations for January, February, March, and April.

He emphasized that, in line with the 2025 Budget Statement, funding for the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) Programme is now fully covered under GETFund, a shift aimed at ensuring financial sustainability for the initiative.

“This new arrangement has helped to resolve several of the implementation challenges the programme previously faced particularly those related to feeding and general logistics,” Dr Ato Forson told the House.

The Free SHS Programme, which provides free tuition and support services for students at the secondary level, has faced periodic challenges since its inception in 2017. Government officials are hopeful that the renewed funding strategy will help stabilize the programme and enhance the quality of education delivery across the country.
