The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that first-year students in all Senior High Schools (SHS) across the country will officially begin the 2025/2026 academic year on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

The directive, signed by Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division on behalf of the Acting Director-General, covers both single-track and transitional schools.

GES explained that the newly released calendar provides key term dates, holidays, and special notes to guide heads of schools in the smooth administration of the academic year. Regional Directors of Education have been instructed to ensure that the calendar is circulated to all second-cycle institutions under their supervision. They are also expected to provide monitoring and support to guarantee compliance.

“The Service counts on your usual cooperation to ensure effective teaching and learning in our institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year,” the statement said.

Copies of the academic calendar have been shared with major stakeholders, including the GES Council, the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), and the Free Senior High School (FSHS) Secretariat under the Ministry of Education.

The release of the calendar is expected to bring clarity to students, parents, and teachers ahead of the reopening, ensuring effective preparation for the upcoming academic year.
