Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni is calling on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to broaden its investigation into the SML scandal, specifically targeting Evans Adusei, the CEO of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML). Awuni believes Adusei, who is alleged to be behind SML, should be included in the list of individuals facing prosecution.
The OSP has already arrested five more persons, including former GRA officials and associates of SML, as part of its ongoing investigation into suspected corruption in the revenue assurance contracts between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and SML. Those expected to face prosecution include former Minister of Finance Kenneth Ofori-Atta, former GRA Commissioner-Generals Emmanuel Nti and Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, and former Customs Commissioners Isaac Crentsil and Kwadwo Damoah.
Awuni drew parallels with past corruption cases, noting that in the Ghana Youth Employment Entrepreneurship Development Agency, the NDC administration prosecuted and jailed its own MP, Abuga Pele, along with businessman Philip Akpeena Assibit. He emphasized the need for the OSP to expand its investigation to include more individuals, including Evans Adusei.
