Emotions ran high in the Yendi constituency as former Member of Parliament, Dr Farouk Aliu Mahama, embarked on a heartfelt thank-you tour following his loss in the 2024 general elections.

The visit stirred a wave of regret among many constituents who expressed disappointment over the outcome of last year’s vote.

The 2024 elections brought a surprising turn in Yendi’s political landscape when Dr. Farouk lost his seat to Hon. Lawyer Abdul Fatawu Alhassan Jorfa of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The result shocked many, as the former MP had been praised for his visible presence and proactive leadership throughout his tenure.

During his thank-you tour, several residents voiced their remorse, describing their electoral decision as a mistake.

“We have missed you, Hon. During Ramadan and the Eid celebrations, we were saying that if you were still our MP, you would have been here celebrating with us. Now, we feel like we don’t have a representative anymore, he doesn’t visit us like you used to,” one resident lamented.

Dr. Farouk, in his address, expressed gratitude for the unwavering support he received during his time in office and throughout the election period. Despite the outcome, he encouraged constituents to remain hopeful and united. He also assures them of the party’s commitment to restructuring, uniting and rebuilding its base towards the next elections.

“Even though this is not the result we expected in the 2024 elections, we must accept everything in good faith. I assure you of my continued support and availability whenever you need me,” he stated.

He further emphasized the importance of gratitude, regardless of electoral outcomes.

“Gratitude is extended not only when good results are achieved but also for the efforts made in striving toward them,” Dr. Farouk noted.

The thank-you tour, marked by tears, applause, and reflection, served as a testament to the strong bond between the former MP and his constituents relationship many in Yendi say they will continue to cherish.
