Dr. Amin Adam disputes JoyNews’ claim on GDP growth

By: Hamza Lansah Lolly/ Baba Mohammed Issahaq:

Former Finance Minister and MP for Karaga, Hon Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has refuted a JoyNews report that described Ghana’s 6.3 per cent economic growth in the second quarter of 2025 as the highest since 2019.

In a post on his Facebook page, Dr. Amin Adam said the report was misleading and did not reflect the official data published by the Ghana Statistical Service.

He reiterated that the highest quarterly growth in recent years was recorded in 2024, not 2025.

According to the former Finance Minister, the economy expanded by 7.2 per cent in the third quarter of 2024, while the second quarter of the same year saw growth of 7 per cent. Both figures, he stressed, are higher than the 6.3 per cent reported for the second quarter of 2025.

Dr. Amin Adam argued that it is therefore inaccurate to claim that the recent growth rate is the highest since 2019.

He urged the public, as well as the media to exercise caution and rely on verified statistics from the Ghana Statistical Service when reporting on the country’s economic performance.

The former Finance Minister further noted that while the 6.3 per cent growth in 2025 is significant, it should not be misrepresented as unprecedented.

He emphasised that accurate reporting is crucial, especially in economic matters, since it shapes public perception and confidence.
