The political landscape of the Northern Region has been energized as Dr. Abdul Rahaman Karim Kpala, a respected academic and staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Northern Regional Secretary of the party.
In a statement made available to Tolon Radio and other media outlets, Dr. Kpala expressed his deep commitment to the growth and success of the NPP and emphasized his readiness to bring his wealth of experience, academic discipline, and grassroots political engagement to bear on the position.
Dr. Kpala, a native of the Northern Region, began his educational journey in Yendi, later attending Vittin Senior High School. He furthered his studies at the University for Development Studies (UDS), where he obtained a Bachelor of Education in Agricultural Science Education, an MPhil in Horticulture, and eventually a Ph.D. in Agricultural Science Education. His academic excellence is matched by his professional rise, currently serving as the Head of Department for Agricultural and Consumer Science Education at UDS.
His political journey is equally distinguished. He was the TESCON Communication Coordinator during his undergraduate days and has since remained active in party politics. He currently serves as a senior member of the NPP Northern Regional Communications Team, a TESCON Patron at UDS Nyankpala Campus, and a member of the Northern Regional Campaign Team for the 2024 general elections.
In his declaration, Dr. Kpala acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors, particularly commending Prof. Hudu Zakaria for his leadership and dedication to the party’s cause. He pledged to build upon that legacy by strengthening party structures, enhancing internal communication, and promoting unity among the grassroots and leadership.
“As someone deeply connected to the people and grounded in both academic and political leadership, I am confident in my ability to serve and deliver effectively as the next Northern Regional Secretary,” he stated.
Dr. Kpala’s declaration has since stirred positive reactions from various TESCON branches and grassroots executives who see him as a bridge between the youth and the elders, academia and politics, and tradition and innovation.
As the NPP gears up for internal elections, Dr. Kpala’s entry into the race is expected to inject intellectual depth, strategic thinking, and a renewed energy into the contest for regional leadership.
