Ablekuma North Rerun: Kofi Ofosu Nkansah Questions NPP’s U-Turn

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Mr Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for participating in the just ended parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency, describing it as a contradiction of the party’s earlier stance.

In a statement posted on his Facebook on Saturday, Mr Nkansah questioned why the NPP would take part in an election it had publicly claimed to have already won, and one it said the Electoral Commission (EC) had no legal authority to organise.

“How do you participate in an election you say you have won based on the records (which is indeed true)? How do you participate in a rerun you say the EC has no legal authority to authorize which is also true when the substantive application filed by the Candidate is yet to be moved in court?” he wrote.

The rerun, held on Friday, July 11, followed a controversial annulment of the initial parliamentary results in 19 polling stations. The NPP had previously argued that the rerun was unnecessary and unlawful, yet ultimately decided to contest, a move that has left party supporters and observers divided.

Mr Nkansah believes that by participating, the party inadvertently endorsed what he describes as an unjust and flawed process. “We only legitimised EC and NDC’s robbery by contesting,” he stated.

His comments come amid growing internal criticisms over the party’s strategic direction and legal response to the electoral dispute. Some grassroots members and political analysts suggest the NPP’s inconsistency could impact its credibility in future legal challenges and electoral contests.
